The Millennium Child Support Group (MCSG), a dedicated non-governmental organization, has successfully commissioned a new borehole at Kenee M/A Primary and Kindergarten in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region. This vital project aims to improve access to safe drinking water, enhance educational quality, and promote the well-being of children and the community.

Supported by the ECOWAS Commission and Spanish cooperation, this initiative is part of a broader effort focused on child development and sustainable infrastructure to transform lives across the Upper West Region.

During a special mini durbar to inaugurate the borehole, Jirapa Municipal Chief Executive Peter N.N. To-Ang praised MCSG for their commitment to community development. He emphasized that the borehole will significantly ease the burden on school children and residents, who previously traveled long distances to fetch clean water.

Goffered Atto Parker, CEO of Millennium Child Support, shared a personal story that inspired the project. Earlier this year, while conducting a baseline survey in the community under the scorching sun, he became thirsty but was told there was no water nearby. A pupil kindly offered to walk to town to fetch water, highlighting the urgent need for accessible clean water in the area.

Representing the Jirapa Municipal Education Directorate, Martin Yiripare commended MCSG’s efforts, calling the borehole a major achievement that will positively impact educational delivery. He acknowledged the many demands faced by the educational sector, including access to water, and praised this initiative as a step in the right direction.

The Paramount Chief of Jirapa, Naa Dinaa Donglabong Ganaa III, expressed his excitement about the project’s realization. He urged community members to take good care of the borehole to ensure its longevity and proper maintenance.

Ms. Ahmed Najat Halimal, Headmistress of Kenee Primary School, also lauded MCSG’s dedication to community well-being. She highlighted that the borehole marks a significant milestone in efforts to improve access to clean, safe water—an essential element for health, hygiene, and overall quality of life. She emphasized that the community must protect this vital resource for future generations to benefit from.

This initiative underscores the importance of clean water access, not just for convenience but as a cornerstone for healthier, more productive communities.
